Gulliver the Golden Traveller, philosopher, picnic enthusiast and occasional picnic-basket stoway
Mid-20th century (c.1950s–1960s) · Pedigree · New Zealand
"Gulliver the Golden Traveller Gulliver the Golden Traveller was born in New Zealand many decades ago, and from the very beginning he suspected that life was far too interesting to be spent sitting on a shelf. While other teddy bears were content with armchairs and afternoon naps, Gulliver longed for distant horizons, winding roads, and the sort of conversations that begin with, "I wonder why..." and continue well past teatime. Over the years, Gulliver became something of a philosopher. He has pondered whether clouds are simply mountains that forgot where they were going, whether sandwiches taste better outdoors, and whether a teddy bear is travelling through the world or the world is travelling past the teddy bear. His favourite pastime, however, is picnicking. Gulliver has developed a remarkable talent for quietly sneaking into picnic baskets before anyone notices. He nestles between the ginger crunch and the cucumber sandwiches, peeks out from beneath checked picnic blankets, and patiently waits until the basket is opened in some delightful new location. Meadows, beaches, riverbanks, gardens, and hilltops have all become part of his adventures. Once discovered, Gulliver is always delighted to join the festivities, especially if someone is willing to share a biscuit and discuss life's great mysteries. Now, after decades of travels, Gulliver is searching for his next companion, picnic basket, and philosophical conversation. After all, every journey is more enjoyable when there's someone to wonder alongside. 🧸✨🌿🥪 AB2026026"
